The Video Game Years

Alright, guys.  Here’s a project that’s perhaps one of the best things I’ve contributed to since starting the website.  The Video Game Years is an exclusive RetrowareTV show that examines the history, culture, and the oddities of video game history.  Much in the style of “I Love the …” shows on VH1.  Hopefully we’ll have you learning, laughing, and scratching your head as we examine all that transpired in our favorite hobby’s past.

This is just part 1 of the pilot episode – 1977.  You can watch part 2 right now at retrowaretv.com, which I encourage you all to do.

Do it. Are you doing it? Do it now!

    I learnt.
    I laughed.
    I scratched my head.

Awesome series – definitely looking forward to the next iterations!

I did make me try to find out what happened to the Studio ’1′

The name “Studio II” is a reference to RCA’s then-famous recording studios. The RCA Studio II was named as to represent a second studio in which artists could create productions for RCA.

I saw this earlier today on retrowaretv, when I first clicked on it I figured it’d be the standard thing with only the main retrowaretv guys, or something, I dunno, I mostly just watch you, Pat, and HVGN, but that was amazing! I loved how informative it was, and I love the style of everyone talking (I assume it is unscripted, if that is scripted then everything is, and I give up on life, but I assume that is scripted too, so I’ll probably try to kill myself in an unexpected way, but then.. ehh fuck it this joke was never going to go anywhere >_>)  like I’m watching some history channel show, or like I love ____ or top X songs of the ___, ect. I can’t wait for part 3!

Also, have to ask (Would ask on retrowaretv comments, but I don’t have an account and there are so many comments I don’t think it’d be noticed), are you guys going to be doing years in order? Like next 1978, then 1979, etc? I assume you’ll be skipping a few years, I mean you guys seem to be using this to talk about the general 70s games. Even if you don’t get everything will you atleast go in order? I think that’d make the most sense

SLY: Yeah, we actually looked up that fact while at MAGfest… it’s pretty rediculous.

Ninto: Yep, we’ll be doing the years in order, so 1978 will come next.  We decided to start on 1977 first because most people consider that the beginning of modern gaming, what with the introduction of the Atari 2600.

I have watched both parts now and they are fantastic; the possibilities of this show are endless. I honestly get excited thinking about the potential this has.

Roo is the highlight of the show, and im not just saying that because I’m on his website (…probably). All of his stuff is either well written or brilliantly improvised, and perfectly timed. When he says: “With the ‘pew, pew, pew’ and the ‘pkshh, pkshh, pkshh’, who wouldn’t want to play that?” I laugh every time.

The only bit of critisicm I have that the lighting in some of the segments is bad to the point of being distracting, specifically in Pat the NES Punk’s. But other than that it was awesome, really looking forward to the next episode.

Great show. Who says learning can’t be entertaining? Didn’t quite get why the episode was cut into two parts? Why not just one?

Looking forward to the next episodes. Especially the one about the ‘crash’ which I assume must be on its way.

I’m guessing it was split in two to re-direct traffic to retroware website (only part 1 is on YouTube, thus far).

Way too few comments on here!  Guess everybody wrote on RetroTV’s site.  This is great, I’m really looking forward to more of this series.  The different personalities from each show really come together well here.

Great production value.  It looks like something you could see on VH1 or the History Channel.  Good job guys.
