8-Bit Gems #21: North & South (NES)
It's amazing that it took Roo until April 1st to review this - one of his favorite games for the NES. North & South is a strategic action platformer about the Civil War that was created by a French company and based off of a Belgian comic. What's so strange about that? You'd have to be quite the fool to pass up this unheralded classic from the 8-bit era.

Noooooooo! Roo, you pressed the reset button!
Awesome review. Too bad I never heard of this game. I may have to look into it.
I used to play this with a friend on his NES almost 10 years and loved it, always regreted not asking him for his games when he stopped playing video games... Sad how some people after a certain age just stop playing video games :(
Of course, this is exactly what I was expecting. Nothing out of the usual here.
I guess the French find American history really interesting. ;-)
I was shocked when i saw 8-bit gems but non the less a great video. North and south is a classic and your review of it was beutifully stated, This is one of the first games you have review that i actually LOVE. Thanks alot Roo Can't wait for the next one :)
i would like more 8 bit gems
Roo!
I see you usually take 2-3 months to make a video, so I am both excited to watch a new review and sad that we have to wait so long for a new one.
Thanks for making these!!
Cheers
Well, hopefully it won't be nearly as long with the next one (I'm actually half way through producing it now). There's been a lot of extenuating circumstances in the past few months holding up Gems, and I'd like to get back in the swing with them. I'm going to put myself out there and say look for the next one in a few weeks!
Why am I not surprised that Roo has Wall Street Kid.
LOVED Wall Street Kid!
I figured you would. Glad someone loves it myself it not for me, my dad bought it for himself and beat it.
Hey Roo,
Long time fan of The Clan, but just recently joined up.
Never had an NES myself, it seemed like the Master System was bigger over here in the UK. At least I know myself and most friends had that console. Wonder Boy Dragons Trap was just epic!
Another intresting, informative and enjoyable video! Nice work and keep it up.
This episode convinced me to scour eBay, great episode Roo!
Hey Roo,
Great review - I was a bit confused at first as to whether this was going to be a joke review, but I'm guessing it wasn't. Nice to see you using 8-bit Gems - hopefully this won't turn out to be a once-a-year thing. I remember seeing this game on speedruns.net - think it's the fastest speedrun on the site, but looks like the actual game played properly is quite fun! :)
Looking forward to your next Gem :)
Yay! New 16 Bit Gem! Now I have something to watch when I eat lunch!
Whoa when did 16 bit gems become 8 bit? Great review tho.
Hahaha!! I love how you used the main theme song from the Gettysburg movie. Nice touch
This is a really good read for me, Must admit that you are one of the best bloggers I ever saw. Thanks for posting this informative article.
Best apple iphone5 cases blogs.
It doesn't matter to me. You make whatever you talk about interesting. Watching the battles play out reminded me of a game I liked quite a bit- Centurian: Defender of Rome. Come to think about it they were very similar. C-DoR was 16 bit (Genesis) so it looked better. Ooh!, that little trip in my wayback machine just made me think of a game I bet you'd love. Wil Harvey's "Immortal" I think that would make a great review. I remember when it came out it seemed hard as hell to find, so I'm guessing it got lost in the shuffle somehow. I eventually found a copy at a used game store and they were still selling it at close to original price. (nearly ten years later)
Haha i thought me and my brother were the only people on earth who had heard of this game. We played it to death when we were kids and still to this day play it when we get together. Such a good game, definately give it a try.
